As a counter proposal, have you considered a little further north? With the exception of Killeen which is very easy to avoid, Bell County has a lot going for it.

In IL they considered the clock to start when you paid for the item, so for a transfer FFL their 72 hour wait was almost always already satisfied by the time the gun arrived.
