Large bore fixed sighted gun

No, not a new gun unfortunately. But I just installed a meprolight front and c&s rear which is on my m66-8.
Hopefully it shoots where it's supposed to.

I hope it does. My experience is that different semi auto loads tend to shoot pretty close, but revolver loads can vary greatly. For example I have a 329 set up for .44 special loads that required a different height front sight built by Hamilton Bowen, because the adjustable rear didn't have enough travel to accommodate the different point of impact between Special and magnum loads. You probably will have to pick a load that works with your sight heights. When Linebaugh tuned SA .45 Colt revolvers for me, he fit the sights to the load.

My m66-8 has the same sights


125 full power loads shoot really low.

125 at 1200fps shoots a tiny bit low but usable

147 at 1200 is right in the dot.

158 at 1250 is right in the dot.

170 at 1200 is right at the tip.

I did file one side to adjust windage but it was very minimal and I like a little more light on each side anyways.

Very nice, I had a smith model 22 thunder ranch and stupidly parted with it. My current N frame is a 4” 29 which I’m shooting specials in. Can you buy just the front blade? My GP 100 match champion has a Novak night sight front blade, but that was an easy swap since that particular model has a dovetail.

Every C&S rear notch U I have installed needed shimming, I use tiny squares of sheet brass fit into the channel in front of the rear screw to get the elevation right then lock the screw down with LT243. But once I got that done they have all stayed zero'ed with the load I chose. Done it to my 627, 686-5, 625, and 28-2.

As C&S is closing up I just placed my last order for a small cache of those sights. I will happily trade no sharp edges for the effort required to re-zero them.

Yup, I think I got it from Amazon. Iirc it's 0.250 high

Good to know. Maybe I'll bring some shim material when I go shoot.

Interesting that .45 ACP hardball headspaces against the cone of the .455 Eley chamber and stands proud enough to pull fired brass out with a fingernail. Not something you'd want to do in a Webley top-break. but Colt New Service is a sturdy, solid frame gu . Range report to follow.
