    That's a really interesting article. I'd never heard of that before.

    I was impressed with the Japanese commitment to recovering all their people. And the US's commitment to recovering a tiny island so far away from the main conflicts in the Pacific Theater.

    Two of the rarest photos you will see of Unalaska/Dutch Harbor. Not a cloud to be seen and no wind. Just to give some perspective of the tiny piece of land being fought over and the mountainous terrain. Unfortunately my photos of most of the gun emplacements are 35mm and in a box somewhere. These are pics from a trip the wife and I took out there to watch our daughter play high school volleyball. One of the best places in the world to do that, the hospitality of the families there is incredible.

    The only station there has long closed down, and I don't know if anyone still goes out there, but the battlefield on Attu is still littered with remnants, to include UXO. Occasionally, human remains would be discovered. It is a stark, inhospitable, and wildly beautiful place all at the same time.
