Who knows? In NYC, there are so many snowflakes they probably melt away on seeing the box…
I don’t know how NYC handles off duty assignments. I’m finding it hard to believe someone from out of the city would get away with bringing a pistol in, so it might be an off duty guy-just speculating.
Sort of sad is how far the British royals have gone downhill, especially little Harry here. My opinion, but a proper royal would have had a sword cane and a discreetly carried sidearm and sallied forth, perhaps with some loyal knights to watch his back…

To the point: the Brits adopted the G17 in their Army several years back. If there is some sort of diplomatic protective service, they’d probably have Glocks. But on foreign soil, they’d be subject to local law(?) So , maybe the box is a talisman…
Edit to add: it’s the new Gunsite Glock, striking fear and forcing evil to flee at the very sight of its storage!
